Aug. 04, 2005
A provider of Windows-based, Web-delivered business software is transitioning its webservers to Linux. InsynQ Inc., which offers Web-based access to applications like QuickBooks Pro and Microsoft Office, is working with Win4Lin Inc. to migrate its application-hosting servers to Linux, and plans to add a Web-hosted Linux desktop in the future.
Win4Lin's Virtual Computing Environment (VCE) can run the Windows operating system along with Windows applications on top of Linux, in "true Windows sessions." InsycQ will initially use VCE to host its current Windows applications on Linux webservers. It also plans to broaden its application hosting offerings to include a Web-hosted Linux desktop along with Linux applications, the companies said in a joint statement.
Both companies are exhibiting at LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in San Francisco, Aug. 9-11.
