| Firefox 2.0 beta release candidate available |
Jul. 09, 2006
The beta release of Firefox 2.0 is not due until July 11, but a release candidate is currently available for download by curious (and careful) testers, PCMag.com reports. Key new features being introduced in the beta reportedly include an integrated spell checker and an anti-phishing tool.
The PCMag.com article warns would-be beta testers that installing the current beta release candidate will overwrite installed Firefox themes, and render existing extensions unusable. However, a "portable" version of the beta candidate that can be tested without impacting an installed version of the browser may also be available.
You can download the release candidate of Firefox 2.0 Beta 1 for Linux here. The version for Windows is here; and the Mac version is here.
