| Firefox 1.5 anti-phishing toolbar update available |
Dec. 11, 2005
Internet services company Netcraft Ltd. invites Firefox users who haven't yet tried the Netcraft Toolbar to install its latest version, which has been updated for compatibility with Firefox 1.5. The latest stable version of the open-source browser went gold on Nov. 29.
The free toolbar runs on any operating system supported by Firefox and displays the hosting location, country, longevity, popularity, and an abstracted risk rating for each site visited. Additionally, the toolbar blocks access to phishing sites reported by other members of the Netcraft Toolbar community and validated by Netcraft, the company said.
Toolbar users submitted more than 8,700 phishing URLs in October, Netcraft said.
Installing the toolbar requires no special administrator privileges. Customized versions with corporate branding and navigation are also available, the company said.
Netcraft Ltd. is based in Bath, England, and provides network security services that include fraud detection, application testing, code reviews, and automated penetration testing. The privately held company also provides research data and analysis on many aspects of the Internet and is well known for its Linux server market reports.
