Free app enables file sharing across Lin/Win/Mac platforms
Jun. 03, 2005

Last week, Australia-based Lava Software shipped version 4.5 of its PC-Mac-Net FileShare, a product which promises smooth, easy, and secure file transfers across platforms, "across LANs, across cities, and across the world."

PC-Mac-Net FileShare v4.5 enables file sharing between Linux, Windows 98/NT/2000/ME/XP, and Mac OS Classic and OS X platforms, according to Lava. The newly released version boasts doubled file transfer speeds, and a host of improvements and new features including:
  • simplified set-up, with automatic detection of all users on home and small office networks
  • fast reconnection to previous users
  • bandwidth load balancing
  • more responsive transfer speed readings
  • enhancements to the MacOS Classic version
  • better onitoring of incoming remote user connections
Available for download now, the free "Lite Edition" has a 10MB file size limit, and supports workgroups with up to 3 users. "Standard" and "Professional" Editions, available at $24.95 and $39.95 USD respectively, have no limitation on file size and support larger work groups. The "Professional Edition" offers greater security, including encrypted transfers through Virtual Private Networks.

More details are available on the company's website.
