Tool extends digital camera support to Linux desktops
Jan. 17, 2005

A new version of Lphoto, an open-source digital photo collection management tool, extends support for popular digital cameras to Linux desktops. Lphoto 2.0 includes a simple, plug-and-play feature that interfaces with digital cameras, allows album-to-CD and album-to-DVD copying, and enables users to create MP3 soundtracks on custom DVD slide shows.

Lphoto is an open source project financed, sponsored, and maintained by Linspire. It supports the Debian, Linspire, MandrakeSoft, Knoppix, SuSE, and Xandros Linux distributions. Digital cameras supported include models from Sony, HP, Canon, Nikon, and Olympus other major brands.

LPhoto 2.0 is available from Linspire for US $20, and is offered free to Linspire subscription customers. Linspire introduced Lphoto last April, and offers a full demo on its website.
