| Skype video-over-IP for Linux rumored near |
Dec. 01, 2005
Skype has hinted that its new video phone service -- available only for Windows XP users at this time -- will likely be available for Linux and Macintosh soon, TechWorld reported Thursday. Skype's free VoIP (voice over IP) services have been available for more than a year for all three platforms.
"Today video calling is only for Windows, but our strategy in the past has been to roll out on other platforms reasonably soon," Skype executive James Bilefield told writer Peter Judge. "It depends on feedback and testing -- and we have dedicated teams on those platforms."
Skype has certified Logitech and Creative webcams for Skype video and will be making them available (soon) at the Skype store, Bilefield was quoted as saying.
