Linus Torvalds discusses the desktop in this report from Kate Mackenzie for Australian IT . . .
"Mr Torvalds insisted he "doesn't have a message" and his personal goal for Linux this year is the next kernel release, but he was optimistic that the operating system may be finally about to make inroads in the desktop market."
"One of the things that's probably going to start happening this year - or start happening in a much bigger way - is Linux on the desktop. I use Linux for the desktop, I never use it for big server stuff." The advance of Linux in the server market has been almost undisputed, with early entrant IBM being joined by numerous large and small vendors . . . "
