| Konqueror conquers "Acid2" |
Jun. 08, 2005
KDE's Konqueror web browser now passes the Web Standards Project's Acid2 test. Aiming to help software developers ensure that their products correctly support features that website designers want to use, WaSP's Acid2 test consists of a complex web page combining HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and DOM.
In prepping Konqueror for the challenge, developers Ivor Hewwitt and Allan Sandfeld leaned on the still-in-development version of Mac OS X's Safari web browser -- the first web browser to claim Acid2 compliance. According to Sandfeld, "roughly half" of the Acid2 patches sent from Apple's Safari developers could be merged with existing Konqueror code, while the rest was written "from scratch."
The fixes are already in KDE's 3.5 development branch, and are being evaluated for inclusion in KDE 3.4.2 -- the release date of which has yet to be determined.
