| LiveCD Linux distro supports traditional Chinese |
Mar. 25, 2006
Taiwan's B2D Project this week released a new Knoppix-based Linux distribution that includes both KDE (3.5.1) and GNOME (2.12) on a single liveCD. B2D is a Debian-based Linux distribution with user environment and read/write support for traditional Chinese, the project said.
The new version -- B2D's sixth distribution release since March 2005 -- is called "PureKGB" and bundles applications from both the KDE and GNOME Linux environments, the project said.
Due to space restrictions, some applications -- notably OpenOffice.org, Nvu, and Mozilla Thunderbird -- had to be left out from the CD, the team said. However, those -- plus many other apps -- can be installed through the Klik infrastructure, the team added.
Key features, according to the project:- 2.6.13.3 kernel
- KDE default dekstop
- Firefox 1.5.1
- GIMP 2.2.9
- GAIM 1.5.1
A previously reported midi playback bug in Rosegarden has also been fixed, the project noted.
The release announcement is in Chinese; there are some screenshots on that same page. You can download the free liveCD iso image (665 MB) here.
