| Ohio LinuxFest seeks speakers, sponsors, attendees |
Jun. 23, 2006
The fourth annual Ohio LinuxFest is returning to Columbus, Ohio on Sept. 30, 2006. The single-day event will comprise sessions for experienced and inexperienced Linux users, as well as an expo floor for commercial exhibitors and non-profit Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) projects.
Organizers are currently seeking for presenters and sponsors to make this year's event, to be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, even more successful than last year's, spokesman Joe Brockmeier said. More than 700 people attended the LinuxFest last year, and organizers expect a larger turnout this year, Brockmeier said.
"LinuxFest has a friendly, community-oriented format that's focused on educating users about FOSS in a fun environment," Brockmeier said. "Because few conferences reach out to users in the Midwest, the LinuxFest is an unusual opportunity for users to come and learn about Linux and find out how they can make use of Linux in their businesses and homes."
Conference organizers are inviting talented Linux and open source enthusiasts to deliver interesting talks about FOSS in several conference tracks. Proposals are being accepted now, and should be submitted no later than July 10, 2006. Presentations should be educational, fun, and provide attendees with useful information, Brockmeier said.
If you are interested in speaking at this year's event, please submit your presentation here.
Hosted talks in 2005 included speakers from KDE, Novell, IBM, HP, Ubuntu, Astaro, the Linux Terminal Server Project, N2Net, and the Apache Software Foundation, among others, Brockmeier said.
Online registration for attendees will begin on July 1. Attendees should book their rooms at the Holiday Inn Columbus City Center as soon as possible, as rooms are limited, Brockmeier said.
